I recently had some interactions with my half-sister Tracey. Funny thing was, my mother was living vicariously through her and using her as a tool to taunt me.
I thought about this interaction for some time. I have so many people who send me positive messages about my writing. There are so many people that are recovering from abuse. Whether the abuse is physical, mental, sexual or any other too horrible to mention, I consider this blog a place for them to find respite.
Writing these words help to bring me comfort. Reading this words also brings many people comfort. People who have been abused are the most strongest of people I know. They find ways to cope with things behind closed doors. They find ways to keep quiet, and bow down their heads and keep the abuse continuing to help them survive.
Many times, the abuser will carry on, and justice will never be served. Even now, as I sit with my grandchildren watching television I think to myself how, I would never let anything like that ever happen to them. Not even for an instance. I realize that times may have been different and a struggle, especially for a small island like St. Helena, however that is no excuse for what has been happened and what has continued to happen.
I have struggle for decades to locate my records from my childhood. These records, are something that I would think would have to be kept as long as possible. Every time I am told they have been destroyed, eliminated, removed. How can this be so?
I am going to set up a support line for all of those suffering from trauma and abuse. It will be for those especially in St. Helena. I get so many emails from people crying for help and I think this a great suggestion.
So for my mother and Cynthia, I hope you sleep well tonight. You have made me even stronger. Your words do not ring true, they only feed my positive energy.
