it makes me wonder if young people especially the young woman on st Helena relize how lucky they are to have access to social meadia . They seem to have a good standard of education something that |I could only dream about as a young woman. I could not tell the time at sixteen years old. I thought that the only option for me was to go to England and be a domestic servent just like my mother before me had done, or stay on the island and have ten children and a husband who would think that a black eye and my front teeth knocked out would be part of the marriage deal.I try to imagine what i would have written on social meadia if it been around in my day .I would have written my teacher hit me with a cane until my hands were blistered and sore because I was late my for school my grandfather mentally and physically abuses me every day he tells me that he hates me, I had a social worker mr sonny ward but I never got to speak to him, my
popa did all the talking while my mum sat holding my hand wimpering like an injured dog. I think that the young people on st Helena should be greatful to the life style that they have . They have a voice, and most importantly they have choices that their grandmothers and mothers didn’t have. There is now a refuge for woman and chid proction for abused children , so they are not beaten with straps, belts, and sticks ,this is something that my granmother and I could only dream about would ever happen in the bad old days and honestly speaking there were never any good old days when I was a young woman growing up on saint Helena.
