Anthony called to see if I wanted to go to Portsmouth for the D day celebrations. I didn’t really want to, but he was quite persuasive and I agreed to go. We caught the train, only to see the ferry sailing away. luckily we didn’t have long to wait. We boarded the next one only to find the harbour was closed due to the flypast. After twenty minutes we disembarked at the ferry port. The main entrance was heavily policed, we bumped into two officers with large machine guns. They were friendly though, and let us take photos of them. we caught a free bus taking us to South Sea common where president Trump was addressing crowds. We walked to Gunwharf Quays and had a burger king meal and then left for Hayley’s. Albert was playing up, she was doing her utmost to pacify him. Eventually, he fell asleep. Mark came in from picking Elizabeth up from school, he made us a cup of tea, the dog burst in, jumped on Anthony which made us laugh as she is three stone heavier than him. We said our goodbyes and headed back to catch the ferry. Once again the harbour was closed due to a display by the Red Arrows which we had a great view of. We finally arrived back on the island. Anthony couldn’t find his phone after frantically looking everywhere. He was somewhat relieved when my daughter rang to say that she found it. All in all a very memorable day. by Dorothy Maude.
