Take off your shoes,
Come dance with me,
And sing the joyous song,
Now tell me in your own words,
What did I do wrong,
I wanted you to like me,
But your jealousy was far too great,
Anger turned to hate,
You turned your family against me,
I truly felt left out,
What was it all about,?
Life is far too precious,
Why nurse animosity,
Fly away now,
You are free,
No more hostility,
No more you’ll dislike me,
If only you knew, I cried for you,
Your passing weighed me down,
Your days are done,
No more rising or setting sun,
Drifting on galaxies afar,
Shining on the brightest star,
Sleep peacefully sister,
Peace to you from me,
Be free,
Because freedom is indeed beautiful. by Dorothy Checksfield.
I wrote this poem as a tribute to someone who I have known for over 37 years. We simply didn’t see eye to eye. She was a good person and so am I. Wishing her a love and understanding on her final journey.
